TL;DR

  • The latest Android version distribution stats show that Android 10 is the most popular version.
  • Android 11 was a close second place, while Android 12 didn’t make the cut.

9to5Google has indeed done just that and revealed the most recent breakdown. And it turns out that Android 10 is the most popular version, accounting for 26.5% of all devices that accessed the Play Store during a seven-day period.

Meanwhile, Android 11 was just a hair behind, accounting for 24.2% of devices. Interestingly enough, Android 12 didn’t make an appearance at all. The latest version of Android was only released on October 4, but 9to5Google also suggests that this data is at least three weeks old. Nevertheless, you can check out the website’s breakdown below.

In third place was Android 9.0 Pie, accounting for 18.2% of all tallied devices, followed by Oreo (13.7%) and Nougat (6.3%). Bringing up the rear were Android Jelly Bean, KitKat, and Lollipop, accounting for 0.6%, 1.4%, and 3.9% of devices respectively.

Either way, Android 12 adoption is off to a good start for a couple of brands. Google has already pushed the stable update out to Pixel users, while Samsung has released the update to Galaxy S21 owners. But the Android ecosystem sorely needs other manufacturers such as OnePlus, Motorola, and Xiaomi to speed things up if it hopes for faster adoption this time.

What’s more important to you: Android version updates or security patches?
